Q: why do these have calcium as an ingredient?

It's to balance the PH level but also acts a little a buffer, it creates a positive agent to a negative agent that helps the negative agent (caffeine) pull in like a magnet, the positive agent (calcium) so does "bind" the ingredients a bit but mostly it's to level out the PH level closer to water of which we're mostly made up of. This makes it less disruptive to our digestive system and helps keep stomach acids from changing. Coffees themselves are a very major factor in developing Acid-Reflux , calcium diverts the pills from causing the same horrible side effect.

Q: how long are the tablets good for (ie expiration date)? 1 year, 2 years?

For many years I used Wal-marts generic 200 mg.. caffeine tablets. I found some in a travel bag that were about 5-6 years old. They had the same effect as when new.

Q: Do these melt in your mouth, and what do they taste like?

Oh hell no! haha do not try to melt them in your mouth. take them so they can dissolve and be processed in your digestive system. Not made to chew or dissolve in the mouth.
