A Terrific & Delicious Read PLUS a WOW of a Surprise at the End

In a car accident, Abi accidentally kills her twin sister Lucy. She is filled with pain and remorse; she cannot escape a heavy burden of guilt. Abi has an emotional breakdown and cuts herself off from her past life and friends - gets help through therapy. Still, Abi "sees" Lucy everywhere. Then one day, she sees someone who closely resembles Lucy and decides to speak with her. The woman is Beatrice, who enthusiastically takes to Abi and gives her a flyer about an art show and sale to be held in Beatrice's home. When Abi goes to the art show, she sees that Bea (Beatrice) has brilliantly and expensively styled the house, which is huge and beautiful, into a sort of artist colony. Young women in the arts (a sculptor, a photographer) live there; also in residence is Beatrice's twin brother Ben. Abi and Ben seem to form a quick attraction. When a vacancy arises, Abi is invited to take the room. Happy at first, her feelings start to change when she notices Beatrice's moods. The twin brother, Ben, seems to somehow be under Bea's influence. Items disappear from Abi's room. Abi is accused of stealing a bracelet of Bea's. Things have certainly taken a downhill turn for Abi, as she becomes unsure of Ben and his strange on-off reactions. And is Bea really her friend's name? If so, who is Daisy? This story is almost gothic in its mood, even though the modern house is anything but. Actually, I really enjoyed the description of the house's layout and décor; I could almost see it, and I fully understand Abi's desire to be there. Along with "artsy" people and the handsome Ben, Abi hopes her new lifestyle will help to dispel her despair over the lost of her twin sister. But there is a lot hidden in the nooks and crannies of the lovely house.Really enjoyed this perplexing and twisty tale! And the ending delivers another huge and shocking surprise. You'll have fun reading The Sisters!

Slow read

I liked the story for the most part but I felt that the author was struggling to find an ending. And there wasn't much foreshadowing of the ending. I felt a bit cheated. Also the main character felt a bit contrived.

There are many twist and unexpected developments that keep the reader engaged and turning pages. Yet the depth of the characters is not as developed as one would expect. Although set up for a sequel I am not going to set-up an alert to be informed of the release.

ELECTRIFYING!!!

This book was even better than I was expecting! I knew it would be good, but I didn’t know it would be memorable! That’s why I gave it 5 stars. All the mc’s were insane! Beatrice, Ben & Abi. They were a houseful of lunatics. That’s why they all ended up rooming together. The end had a fantastic twist that was unexpected! I thought Abi was trying hard to exorcise her demons. I figured she was back on the path toward normalcy. Until I reached the conclusion. The ending blew my mind. I said to myself, “Holy s**t!!!! She really is crazy!”Claire Douglas did a marvelous job constructing this novel, & I’ll be sure to read more of her work.I recommend this novel for lovers of suspense, psychological drama, women’s fiction. You’ll LOVE this novel!

Frustratingly addicting

The whole book all I wanted to know was what Bea and Ben were up to and what they did! I couldn't put it down but also a frustrating read because there were so few clues about what was happening. I would recommend it but really just wanted to keep easing to find out what the big secret was.

Slow and murky

I slogged along, waiting for the characters to become more defined and the plot to sharpen ... I love a good psychological thriller but this wasn’t one. At time confusing, other times rambling and long-winded - the characters didn’t seem very believable and the story/“twist” was implausible and not very satisfying.
