Perfect for my four year old.
I picked this one out of many options because I loved the way that it was presented. I loved the wood, the colors, the flashcards. Each one had differences but this one just looked extra special. I want to slowly get my son familiar with the words so I love that at first he can see the letters and then later you can use the second set of cards and tear off the words. Perfect! So far he has had fun with it though it doesn't hold his interest for long because he is in a car stage. Even just a few minutes a day is fine with me to start with. And it is made so well. I love the wooden look and how they are based around the differently colored vowels. It is such a great price. And really, if it helps him learn to read, it is invaluable.

Neat Word Builder Set, But...
This is a well-constructed teaching tool for youngsters, and I'm impressed with the overall design and quality of the product. However, the word choices on the cards and some of the visuals are a little odd. I know there are limitations on 3-letter word possibilities, but very young learners need simple words and visuals to grasp the concepts of word building and spelling. Some of the words with the visuals are:WORD VISUALcat catpig pighat hatban "the NO sign"hag witchcog gearspet dogSo, cat, hat, pig, ham, and others are great. But not to have "dog" (an easy 3-letter word) with the picture of the dog is beyond me. Most of the cards are good, just some seemed like odd choices, in my opinion.I do like the set and will probably make my own cards on my printer using cardstock.

Not as sturdy as it looks
The easel doesn't hold the flash cards in place properly. They fall over and slip out with the slightest motion, defeating the purpose of the spinning the wooden letter cubes to match the spelling printed on the cards. My "quick fix" was to stretch a rubber band across the card holder, but I shouldn't have to do this with a preschool educational aide at this price point.

Fun activity!
A fun little activity to help your child learn and sound out 3 letter words. Easy to use and a great size for little hands. Keeps my sun busy for a while and it so cute!
