I hate to seem insulting, but I feel like the folks who gave this knife a bad review just weren’t able to intuit how to use it properly. I was skeptical and hesitant to purchase this knife after reading so many bad reviews siting that it didn’t work as described. Au contraire...with my first try on hard butter straight from the fridge, the holes along the edge produced beautiful little curls that would spread effortlessly. The larger hole at the end produces beautiful, slightly bigger ribbons of butter. Moreover, the knife seems well-made, has a good amount of heft, feels good in the hand, and is nice and wide, making it a good spreading knife in general. Don’t be dissuaded by the bad-mouthers, this is a great knife!

I got this butter knife because I often forgot to get my butter out of the refrigerator in time for dinner when we were having bread or baked potatoes. I thought this would save me having to put it in the microwave for 15 seconds.I tried it and the side with the wholes does nothing at all. The ridged side does a credible job but you can't get too much butter at a time.I was impressed with the weight and sturdiness of the knife. I was afraid it was going to be very thin, which it is not.I am not happy with this knife as it did not solve the problem of getting butter on my bread. I will not buy another one.

This product didn’t quite work as well as shown in the advertisement that got me to order it. First, there is a wrong way to use it that doesn’t work at all. Since there were no instructions, I of course used it wrong because that seemed more intuitive. You have to use it at a shallow angle with the little holes on the trailing end as I discovered while re-watching a video. Even then, with ice-cold butter, it wasn’t easy. And cutting cold butter into strings only made it a little easier to spread on my toast. I ended up nuking my toast anyway so I could spread it easier. That being said, it is a nice wider spreading knife for Mayo, mustard, etc. For that, it is better than an ordinary butter knife. This is well made, heavy stainless steel that should last a lifetime.I’ll give it 3 stars. 4 stars as a sandwich knife and 2 as a novel butter tool.

I bought this as a gift for a friend of mine - we were laughing about us hacking up sticks of butter and he used a veggie peeler if he forgot to take the butter out a bit beforehand - but he told me today that this is an officially awesome butter knife so I’ll get one for myself (can’t leave the butter out because my cat thinks it’s for her). So big ole thumbs up

It's o.k. but if it were sturdier, ( bigger holes, larger item so could grasp it better and press so it could catch inside the holes. ) More time consuming than just nuking butter a few seconds and also now ( even though it didn't do the job ), I have another utensil to wash. Good idea, but needs more planning. I'm sure restaurants ( if they use these ) have butter somewhat softened before use. Neat idea though.
