A Beginners's Guide to Chalk Painting Paperback – December 1, 2014

First, I'd like to point out that most of the negative reviews of this book must be by folks who either didn't understand its title, or the definition of BEGINNER. Now, for my review: Although I've been doing art and crafts for years and love learning new techniques [most recently decoupage], I just had to know what all the hype about chalk paint was about—I decided this book might be a good place to start. I was right…, what I like about it is that it's very small [not many pages] so, unlike most Beginner books, it does not overwhelm you with lots of information and/or projects that, as a beginner, are not necessary—too much info can be very intimidating besides. This book is just the basics…, it's easy to understand…, giving you more than enough info to enable you to develop your own techniques and style…, the stuff that makes it 'You!' Projects can be helpful as inspiration but it's been my experience that they're either not suitable for my taste or skill level, they require materials, tools, or products I'd have to purchase [usually impossible on a fixed income] or have no use for unless it's suitable as a gift. Most artsy/crafty folks can find things in their homes that they can repurpose, repaint, or with which they can otherwise experiment with and/or apply their skills, tastes, and techniques [e.g., since I've learned the basics about découpage, I've also found that almost anything can be découpaged, painted, or repurposed—I'm ALWAYS looking for or finding things around the house that allow me to apply or further develop my new-found skills and techniques.

Good things really do come in small packages! Was initially dismayed that this is a booklet of 32 pages-and not a book. But I got over this quickly, as it is packed with great ideas, along with easy to read and follow directions, and just enough pics to accurately determine what you want to do. Very satisfied with this booklet--not a bit of waste or fluff. Just good stuff.

Not much information in this book

I love this book (I should say booklet). The pictures are beautiful, the text clear and the instructions easy to understand and follow. I would have loved to have more examples, but then again, there are plenty of those on the Plaid website

Just what I need for my creative juices to flow!

I was looking for more information as I am teaching myself how to paint and refurbish furniture. I received this over a month late so I ended up buying another chalk paint book elsewhere.

Maybe my expectations were too high but this was kinda disappointing because it's only a few pages long and very basic.
