Best 5e book so far
My favourite 5e book so far! All of the WOTC books are well written & have fantastic artwork, but the content of Candlekeep is a touch of brilliance.I was originally on the fence about buying this when it was announced but am seriously glad I did. The adventures look like they will take a couple of sessions each to run & they aren't designed to run consecutively. More a case of picking & choosing which ones you are going to use & drop them into your campaign for a change of pace. The book has an adventure for each level up to 16th.

Not for new DMs, but fun.
TLDR - there's some good adventures in here, and some good lore for Candlekeep. A couple of them aren't great though. Expect to have to flesh things out yourself. Not ideal for first time DMs.I bought Candlekeep Mysteries when I decided to try DMing for the first time. In hindsight this wasn't the best choice. I thought I could just run some of these as one-shots and see how I get on, but it didn't really work out that way. These are described as short adventures, and that's a good description. They aren't one-shots. Expect them to take 6-8 hours, or more. These adventures are mostly fun and with a good variety of content, but they aren't very pick up and play in my opinion. You'll need to do a fair amount of fleshing out to fit them into a campaign, or just to fill in the details that aren't included. If you're an experienced DM, you'll probably be fine with this, but as a first timer it was pretty intimidating. But if you're running a home brew 5e campaign, these adventures would make great side quests to drop in here or there, or in some cases more long running stories.

DM must buy
If your holding off in buying this book, don't. Buy it now, the adventures are small detailed areas with new factions at the start. Then the book on level 4+ becomes interesting grim fairy-tale level horror that send the dms mind into amazing places that help them create entire campaigns around looming threats. These stories can all be adapted into any campaign via the book portal mechanics. So far a DM must buy.
