Bought because of the great price

I bought this product because it’s less expensive than the black Berkey filters on their website. It passed the red food coloring test. And I am rethinking how often I need to re-purchase and replace filters. I use about 2 1/2 gallons a day so according to the research, these filters should do 3000 gallons which is almost 3 years. So I may be over purchasing/replacing. Are you? Did you also know that these filters can be washed and reused up to 100 times?

I own several Berkeys and I got these to swap out two of my filters. The filters appear to be similar to the original filters. They might be a little lighter in weight, but it’s really hard to judge as my old filters are pretty saturated. I’m not noticing any odd taste or smell from the new filters so I’m assuming they are working. They were easy to install. The filters seem to be a good value to me especially when compared to brand name replacements.

I paired these black activated carbon filters with fluoride filters to replace my two original Berkey fluoride and carbon filters. Priming and installing the filtration elements was seamless, as they look and feel identical to the original Berkey fluoride filters. The water comes out clear, odorless, and passed the red dye test, indicating performance nearly on par with the originals. I’m also pleased that these filters are lead and BPA-free, making them less toxic.I noticed a faster filtration rate, which I partially attributed to using four filters instead of the original two-filter system. A home water test showed no fluoride in the water filtered through the Berkey system, though the results were somewhat inconclusive regarding chlorine levels, as the tap water produced similar readings. I plan to retest using another brand for more reliable results.That said, the water tastes just like it does with Berkey filters—better than some bottled water I’ve tried. While the faster filtration rate may slightly reduce the effectiveness compared to the original filters, with Berkey filters currently unavailable due to litigation with the EPA, I find these a good interim replacement for the portable Berkey filtration system. I will continue testing and update my review with any new findings.
